Art and literature have a timeless relationship. This workshop taps into pupils' imagination to encourage reading and writing.
We explore characters, scene setting and the unique link between an author and their illustrator.
These bespoke workshops can be designed to enhance:
- Current class texts
- Local natural and man made heritage
- History themes
The Authors & Illustrators workshop includes a bespoke, hand painted watercolour of a character designed and described by your pupils.
The different workshops:
Imagine a Scene
Learn how authors have used good language to describe characters and scenes to contribute to some great illustrations.
Listen to the story of Maisie and Max, who have a great adventure and soon realise that reading and writing can be so exciting.
Use the author's descriptions but especially your own amazing imaginations to draw and describe your own goblin.
Linking to classic literature
Using the Local Environment and Class Novels to create engaging descriptive writing and art work.
"Shirley designed a scheme of work for one week for all pupils from Nursery to year 6, to demonstrate how the power of descriptive language can help an illustrator when drawing and painting characters and settings. The scheme linked into the natural heritage of our local area and a field-trip, alongside inspiration from class novels including the BFG and Macbeth. During the week the children were totally immersed and engaged throughout and they produced outstanding art work and creative writing."
